Was the fog a dissapointment or a blessing in disguise for my insurance company? This is the start gate, no really it is, look hard and you will see the barrier, it was, foggy… to say the least

It was a real shame, they closed the track at about 2:30pm so we couldnt even watch the rest go round anymore, there was no way I was risking it myself in that fog… thats strictly for Sabine and the people who do it every day…

Have you ever seen such a biased questionnaire as this?

Whoever came up with this “questionnaire” should be fired, it is credited to Charles Clarke but I am reluctant to believe that he would let something so biased out if he had seen it (yes, I am probably hopelessly optimistic there).

Do you think the government should make sure there are new safeguards to protect innocent people?

Choices: Yes, No, Not Sure

They might as well have phrased it:

Do you think we should be able to lock potentially innocent people up for 3 months without any evidence, or should we kill 100 kittens a day for 6 months

Just shocking, where is the free text box for comments so I can tell you what I think of this?

Well to put it bluntly, I do

Luckily there are loads of bands around at the moment that are keeping me regional-accent satisfied, to name a few:

• Bloc Party
• Maximo Park
• Arctic Monkeys
• The Futureheads
• The Magic Numbers (a bit)

I thought this was a recent obsession of mine but as I thought about writing this blog post I have realised it isn’t I have loved Billy Bragg for years (I can live without some of the political songs but the man writes the most amazing love songs ever, to me they have no equal) and I have always had a soft spot for the Welsh like Gorky’s and the Super Furry’s.

So come back Half Man Half Biscuit, all is forgiven you love-able scouse gits .

I love London

I was down in London last night and when I got down to my hotel, I checked the web (free wi-fi in the hotel!!) made a choice from 100’s of plays, comedy shows, music. Picked a play and within an hour i was sitting on the 2nd row of the theater, watching a fantastic play (Blue Eyes and Heels at the Soho Theater, starring Serena Evans, Martin Freeman and John Stahl). Later I stepped out of the theater, into a great little Italian restaurant where I got a quick supper and hopped back on the tube.

As I walked into the tube station at Tottenham Court Road, there must have been 30 police eyeing everyone as if they were a suspect. Now, its not that that I mind and I am glad they were there protecting us. Its just that you very much realise what London is today because of it and I don’t like what it does to me either, it makes me suspicious of everyone and I don’t like that.

I’VE OUTSOURCED my marriage and filial duties, but somehow my son has gotten overlooked. It’s time to delegate some parenting to the Jacobs support staff. Julie is out watching her childhood friend do a stand-up-comedy gig, and I’m stuck alone with Jasper. It’s 7:00 P.M., Jasper’s bedtime, but I’ve got to write some semi-urgent emails. No time for hungry caterpillars or jumping monkeys.

“Mr. Naveen? If I put you on speakerphone, would you be willing to read to my son? Oh, anything. The newspaper’s fine. Yeah, just say his name once in a while. It’s Jasper. Okay, I’m going to put you on now. Okay, go ahead.”

A pause. Then I hear Mr. Naveen’s low but soothing voice: “Taiwan and Korea also are subscribing to new Indian funds in their markets.” Jasper isn’t crying. I’m tapping away on my PowerBook. “European Union . . . several potential investors . . . parliament.” I glance at Jasper again; he seems perplexed but curious. “Aeronautical engineers and technicians.” Jasper seems to like aeronautical engineers. “Prospects of a strong domestic demand.” After three minutes, I start to feel guilt-ridden. I’ve officially begun to abuse my power. Why didn’t I just turn on the Wiggles? Then again, Mr. Naveen’s lilting voice is so comforting; if there were bright-colored cartoons of strong domestic demand, this would be ideal.
